Brooks England is an English brand, founded in 1886 in Birningham, by John Boultbee Brooks. The company initially produced horse harnesses and leather products but, in 1878, with the sudden disappearance of his horse, Brooks was forced to borrow a bicycle and, immediately realizing the inconvenience of the saddle, decided to make the his first leather saddle. The production of bicycle saddles began in 1880 and the first patent was filed in 1882.
The success of the company was instantaneous, also thanks to the evolution and the ever wider diffusion of the bike. In addition to the saddles, Brooks also began to produce and patent numerous accessories such as bags, baskets, leggings and / or handlebar knobs.
The Raleigh Bicycle Company bought Brooks in 1962 and when the company went bankrupt in 1999, Brooks was sold to Selle Royal Italia: for this reason all Brooks England leather products are branded "Made In Italy".
In addition to saddles, Brooks currently also produces saddle bags, backpacks and handlebar tapes. The bags and backpacks are made of water-repellent and waterproof cotton to carry your items safely and in any weather condition while the saddles, knobs and handlebar tapes are made of leather so as to give the bike a retro and classic style.
