MTB Helmet
The MTB helmet is a fundamental accessory to wear when practicing disciplines such as Freeride, Downhill, Enduro and All Mountain. The helmet protects the head, in the event of a fall, and the face from branches, leaves, debris and dust that can be encountered during the journey. The part of the eyes is instead empty, to allow you to wear glasses or a mask. The mtb helmet is composed as follows: Outer shell: it is made of light and resistant material (usually in polycarbonate), it is water-repellent and resistant to mud and oxidation. MTB helmets are often equipped with protections for temples and neck because those who practice mountain biking are also subject to falls on their sides and backwards. In addition, most models are also equipped with a visor to protect eyes and face from the sun, dust and insects. Inner shell: it is made of polyurethane and is the softest part of the helmet since it is the one that deforms in the event of a fall. Adjustment and fixing elements: they are used to adjust the helmet shell and adapt it to the cyclist's head. Usually it is a wheel that brings the two parts that make up the outer shell closer or farther away. For maximum safety and comfort it is good to wear a mountain bike helmet the size of the head and adjust it to perfection. Strap: usually made of leather or rubber, it is used to adjust the helmet so that it remains firmly in position and does not move when needed. Before buying a helmet for mtb it is good to consider the discipline that you will practice: Cross country helmet: the helmet must be light and resistant. Cross country helmets are very similar to road helmets, they have a tapered and aerodynamic shape and very wide air intakes. All mountain helmet: similar to the cross country helmet with additional protections on the neck. Enduro MTB helmet: enduro is a discipline where you can reach high speeds and ride on uneven terrain and, therefore, in enduro helmets they are usually integral. The enduro helmet is very similar to the dh helmet, it completely protects the biker's head including the chin, teeth and face. Some models of MTB enduro helmets have a detachable chin guard. The latest models of helmets for mtb are equipped with new shock absorption technologies: The Mips system (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) protects the skull and consists of a low friction layer integrated in the bike helmet and has the task of reducing the rotational movement transferred to the brain when side impacts occur. This layer is made up of a set of composite anchors that can flex in all directions, thus ensuring minimal movement of the layer in the event of a rotational impact. The ODS system protects the head thanks to a double shell made of polystyrene where the layers are superimposed, separated by small cavities and joined by shock absorbers that cushion the impact. The coating of the outer shell must be water-repellent and anti-oxidant, it must resist mud and abrasive effects of sand and rock. Before buying a bike helmet it is essential to consider some features: Approval: the helmet must be CE approved with the reference standard EN 1078. Inner and outer shell: they must be perfect and must not have deformations, swellings and scratches. Closing: the closure of the helmet must be safe, it must not jam or present malfunctions. Straps: they must be robust because they must keep the helmet firmly in case of a fall. Adherence to the skull: the helmet must adhere to the head as much as possible. On the Pro-M Store you will find a wide range of enduro mtb helmets, downhill helmets and full-face mtb helmets of the best brands such as the Bell Super Air R Mips full-face mtb helmet with removable chin guard, fox flux mtb helmet and Poc helmets.
