Chains

The chain is a fundamental component of the bike and has the task of transmitting the force imparted by pedaling on the bottom bracket axis to the rear wheel. In modern bikes the axis of movement of the pedals can be composed of several toothed crowns and the rear wheel made up of different sprockets, so as to allow the biker to change the pedaling cadence through the transmission system or the gearbox.
The bike chain is a component heavily exposed to various atmospheric agents and therefore requires regular maintenance and cleaning.
The sizes of the bike components change according to the type of vehicle and the needs of the cyclists. Bike chains, however, keep the length of the links constant (1 inch or 25.4mm) regardless of all other factors. If you decide to buy a bike chain, it is good to know the number of ratios of your vehicle because even if the length of the links is the same, the width changes. Different types of bikes have a variable number of sprockets on the rear wheel and therefore the chain must adapt to this size. The simplest type of chains are single speed or 1/2 †³ x 1/8 †³ and are designed for fixed gear bikes, BMX or some types of city bikes. Bikes with transmissions with front and rear derailleurs mount 1/2 †³ x 3/32 †³ bike chains but as the number of speeds changes, the chain will also have to change, because chains for bikes with different speeds are never interchangeable.
When changing the bike chain, it is always a good idea to always keep in mind the transmission assembly mounted since if you mount a chain of a different brand than the transmission, the mechanical efficiency of both components may be reduced.
