The REAR DERAILLEUR is a component of the drivetrain and is responsible for moving the chain to change gear (distance traveled by making one turn of the crankset).
The derailleur is positioned on the derailleur plate of the frame, located under the cassette, and is composed of a dropout and two pulleys that allow you to adjust the chain.
To move the derailleur, simply press your finger on the rear derailleur lever and change the gear.
The rear derailleurs on the market are for 10/11 speed cassettes and are offered in different ranges so as to satisfy the needs of everyone. 
The rear bike derailleur is generally adjusted mechanically by means of a cable but, in recent years, the manufacturers of complete groupsets have developed electric groupsets with derailleurs that operate electrically: this allows for greater fluidity and rapidity in changing speed.
