The SPECIALIZED HANDLEBAR COCKPIT ROVAL RAPIDE 31.8X420 100MM is more than just the fastest way to the finish line. It offers aerodynamic advantages by limiting an additional four watts from the super-fast combination of Rapide handlebar with Tarmac stem. The handlebar is aerodynamic, lightweight, stiff, and was designed in collaboration with both the world's best athletes and Retül Fit Specialized experts.
The complete removal of the components that acted as a connection between stem and handlebar allowed the handlebar profile to be designed to be wing-like and provide both the maximum advantage in clean air at speeds found in long solo breakaways and in solo sprints. A 4-watt improvement represents a 32-cm advantage on a 250-m final sprint. When races are won by launching the bike, this is a winning difference.
By removing the components connecting the stem with the handlebar this cockpit is 50 g lighter (100 mm x 420 mm) than the combination of Rapide handlebar with Tarmac stem. The cockpit is made entirely of premium high-modulus carbon fiber that provides all the stiffness needed for sprinters and has a higher stiffness-to-weight ratio than any two-piece system ever made by Specialized.
The 15 different stem and handlebar combinations, all at -6 degrees, allow you to find the right position in the saddle: the radius from the top to the drops has been sculpted for freedom of wrist movement both out of the saddle and tucked into an aerodynamic position, while curvature and flaring echo the Rapide handlebar.
