The 160E is Yeti's brand new e-mtb. The bike features a dedicated suspension, specially developed for it, called Sixfinity, and it is totally different from what we have seen on the SB66, SB6 and SB150. This brand new suspension is specially designed and calibrated to work with an electric motor.
The Sixfinity scheme, patented by Yeti, is a 6-bar linkage whose lower linkage, called the Switch Link, has a behavior similar to that of the Switch Infinity. Sixfinity can be adjusted to have an appropriate behavior for the weight and speed of an e-MTB. The structural rigidity therefore adapts to the weight and mass of an e-MTB.
The more the suspension compresses, the more the Switch Link begins to rotate upwards until the inversion point where it reverses rotation and rotates downwards. The suspension, in the SAG zone, i.e. when pedaling, remains neutral thanks to a very high and constant level of anti-squat, between 100% and 109%: pedaling does not interfere with the rear suspension until the switch-link rotate up.
At the inversion point, i.e. at around 80-90 mm of travel, i.e. when you are no longer pedaling, the suspension becomes progressive and behaves like a classic Yeti suspension.
This bike has therefore been designed to guarantee maximum traction and stability while the motor assistance is active, i.e. while pedalling.
To prevent the action of the rear brake from inhibiting the operation of the suspension. on the Sixfinity suspension, an anti-rise level of 65% was recommended at about 50-60 mm of travel, i.e. in the Sag area, i.e. a lower percentage than the Mtb Yeti. This allows the rear wheel to always remain firmly in contact with the ground and not upset the geometry of the bike when riding downhill while braking.
You can also vary the leverage ratio of the suspension: the leverage ratio tells you how many mm the shock absorber compresses as the suspension compresses. The ratio varies during the operation of the suspension.
The bike mounts the Shimano EP801 motor, 160 mm travel, and 29" wheels. The 29" wheels are fast, the rear end is quite short, and thanks to the new suspension layout it is possible to accommodate the Shimano EP801 motor without keeping the rear wheel. The rear end measures 44.6 cm which, with a 29" wheel, is an excellent result for an e-MTB with a 160 mm travel.
The battery is semi-integrated, has a capacity of 630wh and is produced by Shimano: the battery is attached to the oblique tube and protected by a cover: this solution facilitates charging if it has to be done away from the bike.
64.5° head angle with 170mm fork and 44mm offset, 78° effective seat tube, 460mm reach in size M, 446mm chainstay, BB height (approx.) 350mm on all sizes.
Cable routing inside the frame and, if a wireless transmission is mounted, the cable routing can be configured appropriately. On frames M to XL, a bottle cage can be mounted on the down tube.
C1 Kit: SLX drivetrain, Fox 38 and Float X suspension, Sram Code R brakes, and 800mm-wide Yeti thermoplastic handlebar.
