    ALL ABOUT WATTS

In 2019, Áspero took the world by storm, announcing a "new era of gravel speed." The new Áspero stays true to those earlier, simpler days of true gravel but with some enhancements: a threaded bottom bracket, cleaner cable routing, and a derailleur mount compatible with UDH for those who want to use SRAM drivetrains. And of course, it's more aerodynamic. In the case of Áspero, however, aerodynamic performance is not so much about pure speed but about energy savings, achieved through reduced drag. After a long day riding against the wind, the three watts saved compared to the previous Áspero could mean one less energy gel for your stomach to process - Try it to believe it!

Besides reducing drag, we also lowered the chainstays to provide more rear grip and slightly reduced the stiffness of the front end to make the last hours of those truly long races less painful. Among the lowered chainstays, we also added more mud clearance, drawing from our experience with the R5-CX (and the 2023 Unbound mudfest). These are many seemingly small improvements that add up to many others. The result is a bike that looks a lot like the original Áspero but is faster, more comfortable, and more versatile.

    T47 Bottom Bracket

The Áspero uses the asymmetrical threaded T47 bottom bracket that we pioneered on the R5-CX. It is a simple and user-friendly interface that allows us to offer the advantages of BBRight in a more accessible form.

    UNIVERSAL DERAILLEUR HANGER

We used SRAM's Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) as standard on the new Áspero. It is ideal if you want to enjoy your ride with the most modern SRAM drivetrains while ensuring compatibility with future drivetrain developments.

    Customizable and Easy Front End

The Áspero shares the same headset dimensions as the R5, Soloist, R5-CX, and Caledonia, meaning you can use any combination of headset and stem. Want a super-racing, fully integrated look? Go for the R5's ST31 and HB13 models.
