The S5 has one goal: to cross the finish line before anyone else. Under the guidance of Wout van Aert, Marianne Vos, and Christophe LaPorte, the new model has already proven to be an unmatched tool. During the 2022 Tour de France, this bike helped Wout achieve the highest points tally in the modern era, with 480 points—approximately 194 points ahead of his closest rival. This is tangible proof that Cervélo continues to provide aerodynamic advantages to its World Tour athletes.
The new S5 has reduced aerodynamic drag by 65 grams and increased the frame’s surface area while reducing overall weight. The more pronounced frame sections maximize UCI-allowed shapes. The iconic V-shaped stem has been further refined, and the new fork is designed to simplify the entire front end.
Additionally, a revolutionary new wheel design concept has been developed in collaboration with Reserve to enhance stability and reduce aerodynamic drag in turbulent conditions.
In the pursuit of speed, everyone wants to try different positions to find the most aggressive setup. The iconic V-shaped stem of the S5 not only inspires confident handling at high speeds but is now also remarkably simple to achieve the perfect setup. All necessary spacers are provided with the bike, and there is now only one length of fastening screws, reducing assembly complexity and making the system 53 grams lighter.
Wider wheels and tires are faster aerodynamically and more comfortable. The new S5 accommodates tires up to 34mm (measured) and is optimized for the new Reserve wheels that are wider and equipped with 28mm tires. These wheels, developed under Turbulent Aero protocols, save just over 5 watts compared to the previous Reserve wheelset.
The new UCI regulations on aerodynamic design have allowed us more freedom to refine our aerodynamic profiles and extract 65 more grams of aerodynamic resistance from what is already the fastest aero bike on the market. You will notice a larger-profile head tube and BB area, with more aggressive shaping on the outer edges of the tubes. Since the new S5 is only compatible with electronic shifting, we were able to tidy up the dropout area and update the shapes throughout the bike.
We’ve improved handlebar comfort and adjusted its shape for a better transition between the flat and drop sections. Instead of spacers on the previous S5 handlebar, we’ve implemented a new two-bolt interface that allows for better angle adjustment between 0 and 5 degrees.
Cyclists of all levels are moving away from long-offset seatposts, and the new S5 comes with a 15mm offset seatpost on most sizes (compared to the 25mm offset on the previous S5). Older seatposts are compatible, and we will continue to stock the 400mm seatpost with a 25mm offset for those seeking a more extreme fit.
The Red and Force versions include Quarq Zero powermeters integrated into the crankset. The integration of a powermeter results in better stiffness, lighter weight, and greater accuracy compared to aftermarket solutions, with the DZero delivering power measurements accurate to +/- 1.5%, even in variable temperatures.
The 2022 S5 Disc frame is designed to accommodate electronic shifting groups with connectors up to 6mm in diameter; therefore, Campagnolo EPS is not compatible with this frame. Mechanical shifting groups are also incompatible with this frame.
