With its angular shape and distinctive head tube, this paint job gives the SPINE an almost futuristic look. Both aesthetically and technologically, FOCUS employees played a crucial role in specifying this bike, carefully selecting the color-coordinated RockShox suspension (comprising a PIKE fork and a Monarch rear shock), along with the high-end SRAM 1×11 drivetrain and Guide RSC brakes. The wheels were not overlooked either, with FOCUS fitting the reliable DT Swiss M1700 SPLINE ONE models with Continental Mountain King tires in 2.4″ and 2.2″ widths. On the trails, it is far from being a spineless coward, offering comfort, smoothness, agility, and excitement in a supreme mix. The SPINE can handle everything from long days in the saddle and quick loops on your home trails to manuals through the jumps. The rear tracks the ground like a bloodhound’s nose, turning bumps into murmurs and providing informative feedback from the trail. The SPINE's strengths come to the fore on technical climbs, as the bike provides excellent traction and a real pop for out-of-the-saddle efforts, not unlike a pit bull after the mailman. The long 462 mm reach and the short 428 mm chainstays work with the 68° head angle to deliver a truly balanced and stable ride with a lively edge. The tighter and trickier the switchbacks, the bigger the grin. Following the principle of 'it’s not how big it is, but what you do with it,' the RockShox PIKE uses its 120 mm of travel with maximum efficiency without flinching at the biggest boulders. In terms of complaints, we are reduced to criticizing the quality of the seatpost screws and the overly hard grips – but these are minor issues compared to the bike’s performance.
