Gravel bike

Gravel bikes (or adventure bikes) combine the comfort of road bikes with the performance of cyclocross bikes. The frame of the gravel bike is very similar to that of the road bike but thanks to a less horizontal position and wider wheels it is possible to ride even on more uneven tracks.

These bikes have had a great diffusion in the United States thanks to the large number of secondary roads and dirt country roads present in the country. The many cycling enthusiasts in the country, who do not want to share the road with the big cars, have started to ask for high performance bikes both on asphalt and on dirt roads. From the numerous requests was born the Gravel bike.

Even if the gravel bikes have American origins, they take their cue from Italian and European cycling history: these bikes, in fact, are inspired by the first road models used by road cycling champions. At that time, in fact, the roads did not have a smooth and perfect road surface and the bikes were designed to withstand any stress. The gravel bike, therefore, in addition to representing the perfect mix between history and modernity is an excellent solution for those who want to pedal on different routes while maintaining an average speed.

GRAVEL BIKE FEATURES
  • Frame: similar to that of the racing bike but with less rigorous geometries. The column is more inclined with respect to the ground and the axis of the wheels is longer so that the cyclist can assume a more relaxed position in the saddle and not have back pain.
  • Wheels: 28 inch or 700c rims with flat crossed aluminum spokes that absorb vibrations.
  • Tires: the main feature of gravel tires is that they are puncture resistant and the width can vary from 28 to 55 mm depending on the type of terrain on which you prefer to ride. If you pedal over long distances it is advisable to mount the 28 mm while on gravel terrain it is advisable to mount the 44-46 mm for greater grip.
  • Brakes: Gravel bikes mount mechanical or hydraulic disc brakes with rotors of 140 mm or 160 mm diameter.
  • Handlebar: the position of the rider is not forward as on racing bikes. The handlebar is higher and is positioned closer to the saddle. Thanks to this more relaxed positioning the brake levers are easier to control.
  • Saddle: Compared to the racing bike, the gravel saddle is more padded and heavy. A more padded saddle is less aerodynamic and performing but ensures the right vibration absorption capacity and comfort on long rides.
  • The gravel bike is designed to be used in different situations such as bike touring because it allows you to mount bags on the frame and handlebars, to go to work every day, for granfondisti who face different routes for many hours and need a comfortable and safe bike and for road cyclists who use this bike to train in conditions not optimal as in winter or on uneven asphalt.
