The YETI SB120C, with KIT C2, is a 'downcountry' bike: it has the lightness of an XC bike, rides like an XC bike, goes downhill faster than an XC bike and has no handlebar blocks.
The Switch-Infinity floating-pivot suspension sets new expectations on kinematics, longevity, sensitivity and strength.
The frame silhouette takes inspiration from the SB160, and torsional precision and ground clearance are increased without transferring unwanted feedback to the rider. And the refined Switch Infinity makes this bike far more capable than its weight might suggest.
The brand-new pivot design uses 100 per cent precision-engineered, standard-size cartridge bearings: machined floating axles. All bearings are press-fit into the swingarm or front triangle.
A relatively linear progression curve offers riders an active and usable ride with a sag of 30 per cent, a much greater margin than on other 120 mm travel bikes. The SB120's sensitivity to small bumps offers incredible traction. The middle phase of the travel has support to ensure that riders don't eat up all the travel when they take corners hard or lift the wheels off the ground. The 'Oh Shit!' moments are handled with ease: the compression curve has been fine-tuned with more control from start to finish.
The bottom bracket is made of threaded aluminium with integrated ISCG-05 supports. If there is a crash at the rear derailleur mount, the new Yeti models use the UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger), the standard mount for a rear derailleur.
The shorter seat tube allows a longer telescopic seatpost to be mounted. Most riders will be able to use a 150 mm telescopic seat post on Small* frames, 175 mm on Medium* frames, and 200 mm+ on L-XXL* frames (Depends on the actual saddle height on the specific bike size).
The ultra-compact and minimalist one-piece joint for the shock absorbers was specially designed for the requirements of the SB120's shorter suspension travel. In practice it optimises the leverage rate by pushing the shock forward in the frame. This forward positioning allows a wide range of shock compatibility, decreases the height of the mount, reduces the overall size of connecting rods and joints, increases water bottle compatibility and increases the available down tube clearance.
The agile reach allows the bike to glide nimbly over singletrack. Its vertical seat angle facilitates uphill work. Its head angle and balanced suspension travel prioritise downhill fun, making it an incredible Trans-Cascadia-style bike: the geometry of the sb120 is so balanced and agile, it's possible not to think about how much travel you have.
